What is the best computer software for digital photography? Like Portrait studios use? Like Sear’s, Picture Me! Anyone Know? I already have Picasa. Iv heard of photoshop, but is it what im looking for?
Im looking to make enhancements like vignettes, sepia, black and white, mainly vignettes.

For photo enhancements and studio use, my vote for “best” goes to Lightroom. For photo manipulation it’s photoshop.
I will tell you right now that probably almost every professional photographer uses photoshop for all of their photo editing needs. I am a photography major in college and that is the ONLY program we work with. So if you are considering going into photography as a major and a profession, or maybe even doing it just for fun but wanting to get good pictures out of it, Photoshop is the BEST one out there, problem is, its VERY expensive but well worth it, there is more things on there to do than you will ever know what to do with, its quite nice….
Look it up on craigslist or ebay, you might be able to find one thats cheap…
If you want a simple one to just change things like the color to black and white and do kinda cool things but still keep it simple i suggest getting Photoshop CS2.

possibly after effects type programs, like Elements, to add frames and effects, so it does not have all photoshop tolls but has other features instead,

its a pricey but well worth it if you’re serious about photography.But its a very powerful program.
but if you’re only doing simple things like the stuff you’ve said, then stick with a free program like Picasa or Gimp.
Photoshop is the industry standard. It’s pricy, but worth it.
You can do all of those enhancements on picnik.com for free, but some enhancements you will need computer software to do.
