I have some old computer games from 8 years ago I used to play on a desktop, but would like to play it again. Is it ok for my new laptop to play them on it?

I have some confidential/private information in some of my files, so if i have a company do Data Recovery on my laptop that recently crashed are they going to be able to see all of my files?
I just need the basic hardware, NO SOFTWARE! I don’t think it’ll make a difference but i want a 2.3Ghz duel core processor, 2+gigs of ram, a good graphics/audio card and 200 gigs of mem (and could i use externall memory for it regularly as in for a few hours at a time?).
